Who knew Sabertooth could make movies? I watched this 2005 film by Liev Schreiber today and it was better than I expected. The cover had me believing that it was going to be the typical quirky indie film, and while it definitely had some of those funny strange parts (there’s a dog named Sammy Davis Jr. Jr.), it started to feel like well-rounded movie by the end. Had a lot of depth and it was quite emotional at the end. Of course, what movie about WW2 and the Jewish people isn’t? Loved the soundtrack to it as well. World music, I would call it? I never know what to call the type of music, but reminded me a lot of the band A Hawk and a Hacksaw, using the tuba, trumpet and what not. Just great choice in music.
If there’s one problem with the film, it’s that Elijah Woods was pretty creepy in this film. When he’s introduced, he acts a lot like his Sin City role, quiet and just eerie to look at. But once he had other characters to interact with, that creepiness wore down. Overall though, it was quite enjoyable.
