Short Film Script
First thing I want to do is develop some short films. Not shoot them, but write a couple so that next semester I’ll have some options. I want to start off knowing what I’m shooting, instead of my horrible last minute screenplay for my production class. I want to make up for that mess and actually attempt to make a film I’d be proud of. I actually have one story in mind involving time-travel. What else? It’s an interesting story using the idea of different branches of space and parallel universes. Best of all, it involves at most 4 people and a simple location (which actually might be bit difficult to find).
Web Comic
One of the reasons why I wanted to start a website is so I can start a web comic. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself as funny or witty, so I was going to see if I could start a storyline of epic proportions in 5 panels or less. It’d be a continuing storyline between each new comic, but those 5 panels or less needs to be impactful and have meaning. It’ll be a good practice for screenwriting and direction. Come in late, leave early. If that fails, I plan on taking my short scripts and turning those into comic panels.
Learn the Guitar
I say this ever year, so I don’t know why I think it’ll be different. I only know three chords and I’ve tried to move between them flawlessly but I’m still no good at it. I practice, but I just lose interest in learning after a while. So, I’ll see where I end up with that.
Read Film Books
Okay, so I’m dipping into part one a little bit, but I would like to finish at least Save the Cat! and Cinematic Storytelling before the summer is over. Save the Cat! is a great book in getting a point across and for what little pages I’ve read, it’s a great book. Cinematic Storytelling is something that I want to be able to pull out of my head for reference when filming. Rarely are shots random, and when I shot my first short, random didn’t work. It’d be good to know why they do what they do so I can do what they do.
Exercise
Nothing says a lazy summer than sitting around infront of a computer all day. I want to at least keep in shape so I’m not dead after all the walking I have to do on Tuesday of next semester. Man, it’s going to SUCK. Why does the AMPA building have to be so far away from everything? Maybe I’ll take on the 100 Push-Ups challenge that I said I was going to do for my New Years resolution. The year’s not over yet, so I might as well do it now before the year is over.
Go Through Article List
I have a HUGE pile of bookmarked websites of articles that I intended to read. For some reason or another, I didn’t get to them despite a great interest in it. I really need to go through it and read them already. The list is growing and if I keep putting it off, there’s no telling how large it’ll get. Some of them are easy reads, a couple being top 100 lists of recommended movies, but then there’s the long, 6 page article of “The Futile Pursuit of Happiness.” That’s actually a very interesting article about why we won’t be happy with the things we think would make us happy, at least, not as happy. A lesson in lower expectations, or realizing the want is greater than having it.
That finishes up the to-do list, which I hope I’ll get through. Summer started 2-3 weeks ago with two months to go. Unfortunately, it already feels like summer is over and I have way too much to do.
