It’s not THAT bad. Based on the reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, I was thinking that this was beyond horrible. I mean, this was reviewed worse than Wolverine! To me, Wolverine had very little redeeming qualities. So when I hear that one of my most anticipated movies of the summer was worse than that, it hurt a little inside. I was extremely hesitant to go see it, to waste money on such a disappointment. Needless to say, my expectations were thrown to the ground and stomped on a few times.

But then I started to hear the reviews of non-critics, from people who watch movies just to have a good time and you know what? They had a good time. This was coming from people who I would trust in terms of a good film. I started to think, maybe it’s not that bad. It wasn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of problems with it. Perhaps, dare I say, more problems than Wolverine, at least in terms of story. Dialogue was horrible, no defending that. It didn’t help that Christian Bale decided to use the Batman voice. Holes in the plot seemed to be everywhere, especially surrounding Marcus Wright. I mean, why wouldn’t Skynet setup a failsafe? After they repaired him, he still had the free will to say “Fuck you Skynet” (not really) and go about helping John Connor. Skynet, why are we afraid of you again? Apparently they’re not that smart. Especially in the final act when there were only three terminators I can remember who actually fought against Connor and Wright. Forget about having a whole factory of terminators at your disposal, we’ll kill Connor with just three, one of which was a hilariously awesome CG version of Arnold and the other two are easily disposed of. Skynet’s weakness is that they’re just too cocky.

Okay, so why did I say it wasn’t THAT bad? I’m not sure… Actually, the action scenes were pretty amazing.  Yeah, that’s it. This movie isn’t intelligent. In fact, it feels like a script written by fanboys. But it was damn sure entertaining with explosions and what not. At the very least, it was much better than Wolverine. I hate to say it, but I’m kind of excited for the next one. Maybe they’ll take what the critics said seriously and try to improve on the next film.

From now on, I think I’ll trust Metacritic for movie reviews. Unlike Rotten Tomatoes where it takes all the rating and moves it into two categories, Metacritic gives it a number score that, at the very least, ranks Terminator: Salvation over Wolverine. Man did I hate that movie…
