It’s a friggen netbook that uses e-ink!
I discovered that my own netbook can be used quite effectively as an e-reader like that of Amazon’s Kindle. However, unlike the Kindle, my netbook has an LCD screen that tends to strain the eye after a long read and eats away at the battery much faster than Amazon’s book machine. I’ve always wanted a Kindle because of its long lasting battery and the e-ink which replicates real ink on real pages. The Kindle can apparently stay on for days and direct sunlight won’t glare the screen. But at the end of the day, I realize that I would be paying $350 for a 6″ ebook reader. It does nothing else. No internet, no movies, nada.
If the Pixel Qi can really take off, this is one netbook that I won’t hesitate on buying so long as it stays in the price range of $400-$600. The potential of e-ink in a notebook is pretty incredible. Not only will this open up website articles and comic books as readable material, but the battery life should increase significantly.
Of course, the issue that arises is the sacrfice for a true LCD screen that provides millions of colors. Movies and video games become less enjoyable because of the loss of color, which is one of the things I like using my netbook for when I’m on the go.
