So I decided to install Vista again by obtaining a copy ‘elsewhere.’ I thought I was screwed because HP doesn’t offer a Vista disc and I couldn’t very well upgrade to Windows 7 without a copy, but I learned that my serial number for Vista that’s attached to my old PC case is valid on any copy. And so I obtained one in the depths of the internet.

The install went perfectly enough. I was scared that it was going to delete my important files like a previous version of Windows had, but fortunately it was all there in an ‘old’ folder, waiting for me to have my way with it. I had internet issues, but that’s because I forget that my Linksys adapter doesn’t work with Vista x64 and wasn’t sure how I got it working before. After a long and frustrating time, I finally got it working. Didn’t have this problem with Windows 7… Just saying.

Installing programs went smoothly. I’ve learned from past mistakes so all my setup files were backed up and ready to install. Best of all, I managed to get my music back into iTunes without having to lose all my play counts, genius, or podcasts. A little copy and paste goes a long way. Same with Steam. I didn’t have to redownload all the games. Just copied and pasted the files from the ‘old’ folder into the new one and the games were ready to play.

So, it’s all back except for a couple of deleted setups that I’m remedying now. Oh, and no more Hackintosh, which is a major downside. I need to see what I can do to get that back up and running. Though honestly, since I’m not taking the post-production class anymore, there’s no need for it. At least, not as long as I can’t get widescreen resolution using this TV.

Two days isn’t half bad to get back up. I’m not 100%, but maybe I’m better off since there was a lot of crap starting to build up back on old Vista. And now I can be good and ready for Windows 7, which I have pre-ordered for $50 at Amazon. Yeah… I don’t really learn my lesson.
