pushingdaisies

I guess the way Pushing Daisies ended was fitting. Once believed to be dead many months ago, it was brought back to life only temporarily to show us the last three episodes and then to be buried once more. This was a great show that unfortunately didn’t get the ratings that it needed to survive. Meanwhile shows like Here Come the Newlyweds will continue to air because reality seems much more interesting to the masses despite that one can question the reality after the footage has been through the cutting room.

But I won’t complain too much. Pushing Daisies had premiered in unfortunate times. I wonder how good this show, or any show during the writer’s strike would have been if it had a full season. Would I have actually liked Heroes if they had the time to explain their stupid choices? Luckily it survived long enough to bring us a second season. That’s more than I can say for Firefly.

And thankfully ABC decided to air the final episodes of the show which gave us the much needed closure. Granted, it felt rushed, but I’ll take something over nothing. I suppose it ended happily enough. Happy in that every character got what they wanted, but sad that it really did feel like the adventure is over. No hint of tomorrow, no hint of future adventures. What’s done is done and Pushing Daisies is done. There is talk of a comic book but I don’t think that medium would work for the show. It would all depend on the artist and whether or not they can capture the essence of the show well enough through these images.  Though honestly, I would be more than happy if this carried out in a standard book form, or hell, an audiobook with the narrator of the show. The dialogue the main thing that hooks me in and I think I trust my own imagination over static images with a show like this.

I want to blame ABC for killing off the show, but they gave it a chance. Plus, I can’t fault the company that brought me Lost and revived Scrubs. In the end, television is a bitch. Take a chance and you’ll reel in fans, but you also may doom them to a story unfinished. Bryan Fuller isn’t new to this idea and I’ll have to think twice before watching another show by him. Don’t think I can take another heart break like this.
