toyko!filmJust finished watching Tokyo! (2008). Had to watch it with Michel Gondry being one of the three directors of this slightly bizarre film, but surprisingly his short film of the three wasn’t my favorite. Gondry’s film “Interior Design” certainly made me feel more in touch with Japan, but it gets really strange near the end as what I thought to be a dream sequence ends up to be reality. Not that it’s a bad thing, but it was a big departure from what we were shown already.

The second short was by a director that I don’t know, Leos Carax, who made a film about a man who lived in a sewer, “Merde”. Much more bizarre and I don’t know what to take from it. My least favorite, though I did enjoy the intro where we first meet the man in the sewer as he makes his way through the sidewalks of Tokyo.

The third was my favorite, surprisingly by the director of the monster movie, The Host, Joon-ho Bong who did the short “Shaking Tokyo,” which was not a monster movie. It was about a man who isolated himself from the world until he met a girl and ended up leaving his house in search for her after she disappears. This film just had an artistic direction to it that I liked.

Overall, good movie, well, collection of movies.
