This summer we’ve gotten robots in the form of Terminators and Transformers, both equally crappy (though Transformers wins with spectacle). But I have hope that the streak of robot crap will end with District 9. From the guy that was going to do the Halo movie, we get this documentary style story about aliens being held captive amongst the human race. Forget sequels, it’s about time we get an original story, though technically it comes from the short film also by the same director. But that also applies to another film that will be out by September, simply titled 9. It’s strange to see these similarities, two directors with short films discovered by larger directors to debut a feature length film based off the short. I have high hopes for both of these films despite absolutely no relation to one another. They just give me hope that in a world full of sequels and high profile directors, we finally get some new blood in the ring.
