I’m with the rest of the internet. I’m on Team Conan. This whole NBC fiasco is shameful. I get it, ratings are down, NBC is still in fourth place as far as networks go. But could they really handle this situation any worse than they are now? First off, Leno should’ve retired when his time came up. Personally, I never really found him all that entertaining and it boggled my mind how he maintained his strong ratings when you have Letterman, Ferguson, Kimmel and Conan all out there actually giving us entertainment. But the numbers can’t lie and somehow Leno managed to keep up his ratings. I’ll give him credit for that.

Does that give NBC the right to kick Conan to the curb after promising him the Tonight Show so many years ago? Hell no. I mean, not on a justified viewpoint. This gig was promised to Conan five years ago. I remember when I read the news way back when and thought it’s great that Conan will be taking control of the Tonight Show. Who knew it’d end like this. I grew up on Conan, and while I don’t get a chance to watch him nearly as much (procrastination and homework are often my late night plans), I still hoped that when I finally do get the time, I could turn on the TV for some laughs.

But I shouldn’t get so worked up about it. Conan does bring up the point that this is just entertainment drama. At the end of the day, they’ll all be fine, and Conan will be better off wherever he ends up. If NBC wants to continue to fail as a network, then by all means. I’ll stick around for the Office and 30 Rock. I won’t deny my love for those shows. I won’t stick around for Leno.

Though honestly, this shake up has been pretty entertaining. Every late night host is ripping on Leno and NBC, which is reason enough for me to keep checking out this late night drama.

UPDATE 1/15: Seems to be final. Conan’s leaving NBC, even after being threatened by Zucker that he wouldn’t be allowed on air for 3.5 years until his contract expires. Good news is that this now lets Conan take any offers on other networks. I still can’t believe NBC let it get this far though.
