It was unveiled yesterday, the rumored and much talked about Apple tablet. This device had the potential to be amazing. The thought of just a screen to have, making it useful for reading documents, watching movies, and using the many incredible apps in the app store… and then Apple had to go and make it their own. This will be a money maker for sure. There has been a lot of praise for it, but at the same time there’s a lot of backlash and rightfully so.

The iPad sits on a strange place in the market. It’s not meant to replace an iPhone, yet it’s not powerful enough to replace their MacBook lineup. It’s just another device to own so Apple can continue taking money from suckers. I wouldn’t be so bitter, but really, there are big things that this device can’t do that it should be able to: lack of flash, USB, camera and multitasking for starters. Once again you’ll need to buy special adapters for this one product, and I would venture to guess that the next iteration would make those obsolete. There’s also a lack of widescreen which even the iPhone has it beat, but that seems to be common with most netbooks in general. Still, imagine this device doing 720p videos. I’m hearing the screen is beautiful, so it’d be nice to run HD video.

As it stands now, why own one other than to have the next shiny Apple gadget?

I will say though, as an e-book reader, this thing could be a great device. But why not get a Kindle for half the cost and a greater battery life?
